Did Napoleon walk into all sorts of whoop-ass with his 7 combat I archers? Short answer, no. He killed off my spear and axe in the woods with the loss of two archers. But the next turn, he did walk into it and my first cat attacked with odds of 88%. You have to be happy with that.
My tech plans at this stage were calendar for the happiness resources. My empire was starting to show signs of dis-satisfaction and I was looking for ways to releave that. However, teching at 10% meant that calendar was going to take more than 55 turns. I checked on Napoleon's peace offer and it included techs ... Calendar and Archery. Well, if he is going to give me that tech for peace, I can stop researching it ... research set to meditation (aiming for Code of Laws).
After the open field skirmish, I gathered my forces and went looking for Napoleon's cities. Lyons was the first found and, as expected, it was packed full of archers. It seems that Napoleon doesn't have any other build available to him. Here is his power graph ...
You can see that he seems to have hit an upper limit. I think that is caused by Napoleon's money issues (GNP graph - 0084). Well, Napoleon is in a bad way financially, not as bad as he was but still pretty bad. However, you will notice that I am in a pretty bad way myself. I must take Lyons for the cash. I then get those techs mentioned above for peace. But not for long. A scant 10 turns later, I demand and get 130 gold from Napoleon (he has researched Currency (:D)) and then the war is back on ... |

Its at this stage (1200AD) that I meet Mansa ... or more accurately, he comes and meets me. His score is only 997, I'm at 698 and Napoleon is 587. He is 5 techs up on me but doesn't have calendar (I trade it to him with some gold for Currency).
Orleans falls with little or no problems
I next meet Caesar in 1290AD and he is a whopping 8 techs up on me and I have nothing to trade. However, he is only 200 pts of so in front of me on score.
Napoleon comes and offers peace, throwing in Monarchy but quickly gets turned down. My armed forces star burst after the fall of Paris with regiments going North and South on a major mop up operation. I even have to put some troops on galleys to take Napoleon's island based cities. Shortly there after (1450AD) France is no more.
Great! France is dead, I've met 2 of the other 4 AIs, my empire spans my island, my economy is break even at 0% science, I am multiple techs down to Caesar (Caesar!!!), most of my cities are at their happiness cap, I cannot build science multipliers, and to top it all off, the Barbarians which had been under control are BACK! What do I do now?
