I press enter ... and breath. One down, 5 more to go. Is there anyway that I can speed this up? I have two workers in the area and some forests. A chop will yield 20 hammers and that is the same as a turn. I move both workers onto my grassland forest and chop / chop. I also pop a copper mine West of London (boy, that one was hard to organize!) that adds two hammers per turn. Next, I hit enter 1 or 2 more times and then I can apply the whip for a maximum yield (3 population points). Is that worth it? I'll tell you at the end of the game.
Game Over - I win. Now, lets go play Sullla's PETA game. What? This game isn't complete? Ok, what now? Well, a few turns later, the Oracle falls and on the same round, Confucianism. Is that a Civil Service slingshot pulled off by an AI? Or did the AI just select Code of Laws (probably!). |

Here is an example that this game is just not trustworthy ... you can clearly see a hut that I will be popping in two turns ... but one step forward and that village automatically disappeared ... RATS! Also, the AIs are ganging up on the human ... just look at this ... and what type of mighty stack of doom did Napoleon bring against my weak old civilization ... see insert! |
This cannot be right! I scroll back out above the clouds and select units and then click on Enemy Military and ... 1 small archer ... Ohhh, I am sooo worried about this. I then scroll over to France, still up in the clouds, select resources, then General and see 'stone' in France's borders, 'horses' outside his borders and copper (also outside his borders) ... Ohhh, I am sooo worried about this. Wait, wait - I don't know iron working yet so he might have iron! I flick my tech over to iron working to answer that question. I'm still worried about why he declared war on me ... does he know something that I don't know? A few turns later and after checking the charts, I find the answer ...
I've left a warrior on a hill looking for incoming French troops that I assume are on their way. In 275BC, I see ...
... I pull back my warrior and organize 4 axes to organize a welcome party. My odds attacking them are around the 60-70% mark and I go 4 for 4! First round to me! Next turn, 4 galleys turn up carrying 4 more archers. I could whip up an trimaring(?) and kill off these units ... but wait, this isn't Warlords. Oh well, I guess that I will just let those galleys pillage my sea resouces (none at this stage in the South :lol:). I pull back my axes inside my borders, promote them all with cover and wait ...

On the Barbarian front, I hadn't been bothered for a while. There is a small town full of archers North East of London. I have a Woodsman II promoted axe sitting in a forest 'controlling' those Barbarians. I've also found a small Barbarian town West of London. It has 3 archers and a worker tucked up behind walls. Yes, walls (+50% defense). Its on a nice little site too (rice, clams, cows).
I've finished my Iron Working research and I haven't checked if I have iron ... too busy checking if Napoleon has it ...
[back to the French Front] I have 3 or 4 galleys harrasing York (a new York, not the York that I lost to the Barbarians and renamed New York). This new York has two fish, horses and shares cows with New York (the old York). This looks like a great place for many artists to gather. There is also a mini-stack of 3 archers incoming from France and two of the galleys carry a boat load. I also have my two friendly Barbarian cities that are putting out archers. The world must be running short of lumber at this rate. There is also a galley in the north.
My cover promoted axes and a few chariots make very short work of all these archers. I wonder what sort of dent I am putting in Napoleon's power graph (not much on checking) ... his level is at least twice mine. We are also roughly equal on Mfg goods, crop yield and I have just overtaken him in score. However, his GDP is in the sink ...
What a shocker! I've seen that when taking cities (I think), his losses are caused by building too many units. Well, I should be able to help him out on that front because I have just discovered CONSTRUCTION which, as everyone knows, means CATAPULTS!
In 500AD, Napoleon sent his biggest stack against me ... 7 archers.
Their move onto the hill had me thinking that they were heading towards Ligurian (Barbarian town) and so I scrambled my units in that direction. I also left my axe / spear lookout on the hill (middle bottom) so that my axe could heal. You will also notice that Napoleon now has copper inside his borders (middle left). Time to go on the offensive. The next round, that stack moves South East, moving away from the Barbarian city and continuing his drive to my heart land. I should have been able to work that one out as CIV IV always suggests the most defensive path (all other things being equal). This means that I cannot move my axe / spear to safety (they both move into the forest). |

I've set a trap for Napoleon. Lets see how good a general this guy really is. He has 7 archers on a hill two tiles from my border. He is also sitting on a road that runs right into my border, so in 1 turn he could be inside my border and ready to cause some damage. However, I have (1 tile inside my border and OUTSIDE HIS VISUAL RANGE) 5 axes (3 with cover), 2 catapults, 1 spear and 1 chariot (with a medic chariot in reserve if needed). This could be a complete blood bath.
