All Happiness is the Release of Internal Pressure

Game Report: Adventure 9 - Stagnation (3/6): Recap

You might have noticed (and expected) that other things were going on while I was tech whoring my way back into this game. This section covers some of the other things that I was involved with. I was determined to remove the Mansa "other religion" negatives. To that end, I flooded his nation with Jewish Missionaries and spread the religion to all of his cities. Saladin (who owned the Jewish Holy City) never did say thank you for the free money I was sending his way! I would check every so often about converting Mansa to Judaism and the price was roughly 500 a pop. Not bad.

I was also checking on the population count and Hatty was always #1. This is good as I had set her up as my UN opponent in 760AD. I was regularly #2 and every now and then I would set my cities to max food when I noticed that my population was slipping out of the #2 slot.

The other news worth thing that happened was that JC cancelled Open Borders with me in 1535AD, he then demanded 160 Gold in 1590AD declared war on me in 1650AD. This was great news! Yes, great news! He was behind on the tech front and his army consisted of Horse Archers, Cats and macemen. I have macemen and cats but I also have Conquistador so I don't see his units as being much of a problem. I also don't intend to take any of his cities - my game plan is UN victory, not military domination. However, the best news is that I can get positive relationship modifies from sharing military struggles. I dial up everyone I know (excluding Hatty) and see if they want to join in on the fun with JC). Qin is in when I throw in Scientific Method.

JCs first stack (1 cat, 4 Horse Archers and 1 Maceman) pillages one town and starts to bombard Seville (Far West). My first response unit (a suicide cat) takes out his maceman at 3.2% odds while causing collateral damage to the other 5 units. These units are quickly killed off. His second stack (3 cats, 2 HAs, 2 MM and 2 Grenadiers) take a little bit longer and manage to kill off some of my units. I had built an explorer who scouts out Saladin's land (he is between JC and I and will not stop trading with JC, ie close borders!) for further incoming troups. I also have a Canquistador doing the same. Unfortunately, I end up losing my explorer to a HA (just how much war weariness does the loss of 1 explorer cause?). Shortly there after, JC sues for peace with the following offer ...

My total casualties are 3 Conquisadors (all in home territory) and 1 explorer. My civilization had also lost a warrior and a scout but I am assuming that was during the time that Sirian was in charge! JCs casualties were 6 Horse Archers, 4 Catapults, 3 macemen and 2 Grenadier.

I also suffered an Arabian revolt in Murcia (the only city that I added to the 7 that Sirian built. After it came out of revolt, I checked the city screen and was informed that I had a 5.8% chance of revolt (1 in 20!). This is a size 9 city in a game where population equals votes. I had to reduce that chance of revolt. I upgraded the units there to Infantry and also shipped over three other Infantry units thus removing the chance of revolt.

Other note worthy items ...

Finally, I had saved two different Great People and I was 10 turns away from finishing the UN. I kicked off a golden age that runs for 8 turns and brought turns remaining on the UN down to 8 ... perfect. Here is the situation with 1 turn remaining on the UN ...

1858AD - a very big year ...
