Yes, you guessed it! I decided that Spain had grown my city (remember the one I had marked) to such a state that it was time I claimed it - she actually build lots of farms in a huge commerce site! What a waste. Oh well, more war - the green insert shows my three pronged attack against Spain with the following results ...
I mentioned a military slingshot ... well, it took me two bites to wipe out Mansu (see the score chart at the end of the game and you can see the two drops in score that he suffered) - the first wave was maceman / cats and I followed that up with Grenadier / cats. After the Mansu war and just before the Spainish war, I was racing for Liberalism and the free tech. Well, I won that race and got the usual list of techs to select from ...

I had a really interesting screenshot as this war was progressing showing a huge Roman stack (knights, macemen, cats, etc) - so many that it scrolled off the screen with the usual '...' down the bottom. I thought he would join in on the Spainish romp ... but no - HORNS, Ceasar's mug shot with the "THIS MEANS WAR" text - he attacked me!
I had to hunker down a little here as I had lots of offensive units (City Raider III Grenadiers promoted from macemen really rock and it sucks big time when you lose one of those guys - you can never replace them) and not many defensive units. I signed peace with Spain and settled in to defend my newly captured cities. Ceasar actually razed one of my cities and took down about 4 Grenadier and a few cannons in the process with a goodly number of suicide cats followed by knights. That put his injured stack in the 'fog' so I organized some cannons and Grenadier and then ran a explorer over the hill to locate the stack (still about 15 units strong) then crashed the above mentioned cannons and Grenadier into it. After that, Ceasar only sent the stray knights over but he did menace my home territory with a rifle for a few turns until I marshalled a Grenadier to tidy that mess up.
I actually waited a fair number of turns before finishing off Spain - the main problem was that she had one city in the northern waters and one blocked off by Rome, so I had to build some galleys to take care of those two cities.
