Boudica had eyes on expanding her land holding and decided that Spain looked nice and ripe. Thus she walked a fairly big stack (8 x cats, 2 x phants, 2 x horse archers, 2 x chariots and an axe) through my lands towards Spain. Not the stack composition that I would have put together, but pretty reasonable. I let it go while I reinforced my Boudica cork city with defensive units and put together two cat / mace / knight mini-stacks in old Mansa territory (now owned by Boudica). Can you see what is coming?
Boudica declared on Isabella, bombed down the city defenses and then lost nearly all of her units. She asked me to join in her war against Spain - I said No. Instead, I closed borders with everyone and declared on Boudica, quickly capturing her Mansa holdings and killer Mansa in the process.
I then repositioned my units to take out Boudica proper. Just as that portion of the war started, Alex pulled a swiftie and declared on me. My Alex cork city had 2 archers that I quickly upgraded to Longbows. His stack was cats, Trebs, some melee, phants and 6 x knights. Thus I started longbows and crossbows towards that city. I also moved a squad of fast moving Knights there too. It didn't matter ...
He took that city and started to move towards my capital. I put a slightly better defensive stack together on one of the hills, hoping to slow him down or mow him down as he walked past. That didn't work either ...
... but it slowed him down. He returned his units to the captured city to heal.
This was getting to be a major problem and I needed to concentrate on the Russian front. I settled the war with Boudica (picking up education) and moved the majority of my units towards Russian lands. My experienced units were too much for him and I recaptured my city and got peace for 200 gold (his money) [pic on right is from just after recapturing my city].
From there it was a matter of returning to Boudica's land and finishing that war, then back to Russia to capture that portion of the map. Isabella even decided to declare war on me somewhere in there but I didn't have to worry about that. I put in some defensive units in that city and my vassal, Louis XIV even turned up with some offensive units to cause Isabella's forces to stall. Domination victory in 1724AD (Turn 372). |
