In all the mayhem down south with the Aztecs, I still had to watch that Tommy didn't (somehow) get his hands on some copper. That would have put a crink into my war plans. He did sail some forces north …
He is obviously planning some city up North ... here it is a few turns later ...
I leave my forces up there to keep an eye on him. One border pop and he has the copper ready to be minded. That might make a good trigger for war. In the mean time, my forces are ready to finish off Monty - the peace deal has expired and so it is time to go again ...
[sound the war trumpets!] - Aztec War II 540AD (137) to 580AD (139)
Well, that didn't take long ... if you listen closely, you can still hear the echo of the trumpets
While I was watcing Tommy up north (no border pop yet), I marshelled my forces for the strike - hopefully this would be more swords v archers. In 940AD (155), I declared war on Tommy.
[sound the war trumpets!] - Japan War 940AD (155) to 1200AD (180)
As it turned out, it was a much tougher war - he had horses, hence horse archers. I build a few spearmen and also some cats to take down his walls / damage his troops. He was locked in his cities fairly soon so I had the pillage rights to his land. No more horses for Tommy. By 1200AD (180), it was all over ...
As you can see, I have a bit of a whole in my civilization. The other news is that my economy has tanked. Better start to fix that. Gold and economy techs research started but it seemed that this would take forever. While I was working on that front (for the next 600 years!), I had researched Compass and had two Caravals out - different sides of the continuent. I guessed that there was another continent out there and I assumed that it would be a pole to pole job like mine(!). I also had one of my trusty ex-fog busting scouts on one. Then in 1230AD (183), I met America and Spain. Oops - I am behind in tech - stupid wars. Spain and America? I thought there was only 1 more civ out there. I am sure that the initial info on this game said 4 civs. (checked - it said 4 opponents - note to self - read and understand).
I looked around my empire and checked that I had spread my money making religion to all cities (yes), had courthouses in appropriate spots (yes) and were working the commerce tiles (yes). Guess it is just a matter of time then. About 30 minutes later, I remember that I have three (3!) religions and I can get money for each of them (duh). So, crank up the GP Farm for Priests and start churning those missionaries - also building markets, grocers and banks. The economy really picked up once I had those coffers bring in donations. I even started spreading my religions to Spain and America. It was getting particularly annoying that those missionaries kept failing (5 or so turns to make, 2 to travel to the coast, 5 to travel to the new land, 2 to reach the target city, 1 to fail - GRRRRRRRR).
Time to change that … Learn Astronomy in 1804AD (272) … First Galleon completed in 1818AD (279) … Troops start moving East (I build all my Galleon's in only 1 of the oceans - let them bring troops over if they dare). The real question is who is going to get the chop - America or Spain. They both had open borders with me when the great troop transport started (at the end I had a fleet of 9 Galleon just sailing back and forth depositing troops. America blinked first and closed borders. That meant that Hatty become my marshalling area and then …
This was a tough but quick battle. I didn't have to spend much time foot slogging it though enemy territory. I used my Galleon's to deposit my forces nice and close. All over in 21 turns - not bad.
Time to let my new cities come out of revolt and my land area build back up - hopefully I will exceed the domination land threashold. Lets see …
Domination land limit is 66%. Will I be able to make it without attacking Hatty? She has 37% of the land area. Hmmn - 100% less 37% is 63%. This is less than 66%. Oh well ...
[sound the war trumpets!] - Spain War I 1910AD (325) to 1930AD (340)
Short and sweet, again, mainly foot slogging to her cities - troop loss is unimportant, land area is ...
Looking back, I build 1 settler in 1840BC and then next during my 'fill in my island' phase in 1170AD. In between then, I took settlers in the form of cities from Monty and Tommy.
Here is the final score ...
