Game Report: Epic 7 - Mano v Mano (2/3)

So, for those who cannot make out the first screenshot (and I am assuming that is everyone) ...

My plan was to win via space ... honestly, from Sirian's setup comments, I thought this was the only option that I could actually make ... time just wasn't an option (the AI would be in space years ago), culture (nope, done that but not an option on this setup), domination (I have no idea why I thought that wasn't attainable - is that a spoiler?). To do this against an Immortal AI, I would have to put a big spanner in her system. I also expect that Alex will polute the other islands around his homeland ... I will also have to play the role of pest exterminator or pollution clean up. Thus I clime into my pollution equipment and get to work ...

Unfortunately, I wasn't this focused in the actual game and teched quite a few religions before I got down to actually teching so that I could constrain Alex ... and here is the method that I select ...

Yes, the dreaded CS Slingshot and a bit late at that. Why am I going this route - mainly for the maces. After the slingshot comes in (yes, I still got it), I head to machinery and start building galleys. I also pick up construction (phants and cats). However, before I could even get close to this ...

Just you wait you sniffling dog, your day will come! Well, I prepared for a stack of Greek units to land I my island (I just bet he didn't read the rules) but they never came. So, after I had finished up a few nice techs (machinery, construction) I build myself a couple of units and stepped on his land, wait, lets check the power curve ...

... and my gold ...

... however, my production was good but my food was bad ... however, I had units on his land! ...

As you can see, my economy is in the drink - this always happens to me ... I must learn to build my economy so that it rocks ... is there a game around that I could try that on ... hmmn, yes there is ... Adventure 12. I was going to skip that game but, now, I will treat it as a 'how to build your economy' learning exercise (but I don't think that I will post an official report ... not enough time). Anyway, was I breaking the 'rules' by setting foot on this land? Nope ...

And Alex would now give me peace for ...

Lets review ...

Normally, I turtle in this situation, trying to fix my economy (Adventure Nine - Stagnation), or I turtle to try and protect what I have (Epic Four - Barbarians), or ... I wait until the killer unit (Epic Five - The Covenant of the Sea). The question is, what do I do this time.

I actually put the game aside for 18 days and thought about it.
